Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service recently welcomed students from Fraser Coast Anglican College for an exciting High School Health Careers Tour at Hervey Bay Hospital, delivered in partnership with CheckUP.
CheckUP is a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving health outcomes for communities most in need.
As part of the Gateway to Industry Schools Program, CheckUP works with schools and health partners to provide students with meaningful exposure to career pathways in the health sector.
Facilitated by Melissa Gear from the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service Recruitment Services team, the visit gave students a behind-the-scenes look at a range of hospital services.
Students explored Medical Imaging, the hospital kitchen, Allied Health including a session in the Rehabilitation Gym and wrapped up with an engaging demonstration in the Nursing Simulation Education Room.
The immersive experience allowed students to see firsthand how hospital teams work together to deliver care.
Their enthusiasm was evident throughout the day, with many describing the experience as inspiring and even wishing the tour could continue.
Manager of Recruitment and Workforce Services Michelle Kennedy said the event was an important opportunity to connect young people with meaningful career pathways in health.
“It’s vital that we invest in the future of our workforce,” Michelle said.
“By opening our doors and giving students a taste of real-world hospital environments, we hope to spark their interest in health careers and show them the diversity of roles available.
“Days like this are about planting the seed, and it was fantastic to see so many students engaged and asking great questions.
A big thank you goes to the dedicated staff who generously gave their time to support the visit: Jason Whelan, Stephanie Sheed, Sandra Fraser, Samantha Scotney, Lisa Stimpson, Michelle Nightingale, Briana Litzow, Stephen Schofield and Timothy Butters.
