March saw the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS) team up with CQ University (CQU) for its Uni Life Market Day in Bundaberg, promoting career pathways and workforce opportunities across a range of health disciplines.

WBHHS staff hosted an interactive stall, connecting with students alongside colleagues from recruitment, nursing, and medicine.

A highlight of the day was the inaugural WBHHS and CQU Allied Health Connect session, a dedicated event aimed at strengthening early links between students and the local health workforce.

The session was well received, with more than 20 allied health students registering interest to stay connected with WBHHS as they move through their studies.

Students were particularly enthusiastic about the opportunities the new Bundaberg Hospital will offer, including the chance to connect with practicing clinicians and explore future pathways into the health service.

Medical students also attended to learn more about interdisciplinary collaboration and what the future holds for healthcare in the Wide Bay region.

Wide Bay is focused on building strong local talent pipelines, and this event is just one example of how WBHHS is working to “grow our own” — supporting students from study through to employment.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with CQU and engaging with other tertiary providers across Queensland to develop a sustainable, skilled, and locally invested workforce.
