How long have you been with WBHHS?
Four years in December.
How do you describe what you do?
As the Compliance Manager for WBHHS, I engage with teams across the HHS in both clinical and non-clinical areas to understand and improve controls in place to meet our regulatory obligations and mandatory requirements under various Health Service Directives and Protocols.
In practice this means that I read a lot of legislation, engage with a variety of stakeholders to understand current processes, systems and practices through an assessment process that is designed to map how we meet our legislative requirements, and develop treatments to help reduce the risk of non-compliance across the HHS.
As a side gig I also help manage oversight of the Fraud and Corruption Control Plan and associated activities and Internal Audit function which is aimed at assisting to build maturity across key areas within the HHS.
What's best about your job?
I really enjoy the behind-the-scenes view into how different service areas function and meet their regulatory obligations or other mandatory requirements.
It provides a great opportunity to observe the awesome work that our teams do and collaborate with some incredibly passionate staff all working towards the delivery of safe and effective health care to our consumers.
It would also totally be remiss of me not to mention working as part of the broader Risk and Compliance team – it is great to have such a supportive environment where I can share in my successes and errr… learnings…to hopefully continue adding value across the HHS.
What was your path into health care?
Like, I am sure, many have before me…I stumbled into health care on the back of a somewhat lengthy career in the delivery of HR and Payroll services across various Queensland Government Departments. After many years leading the local payroll team in delivering services to the WBHHS it was time to move across and utilise my skills and experience and meet new challenges.
What does being part of a team mean to you?
A wise friend once mentioned that they are a “collector” in that they go through and collect people on their journey who add something of value to their life; and add value in return.
To me this really sums up what being in a team is about – it’s developing the ethos and contributing to an environment which allows us to leverage the opportunity in creating a more valued sense of belonging by collecting… people, skills, experiences, successes, learnings and other aspects that enrich ourselves and those around us.
When you're not at work, you are....
Probably…with my wife and our three incredible little humans, either doing something with the kids, for the kids or because of the kids. We like to get out and about for new adventures and give the kids new experiences.
Currently we are keenly planning our follow up adventure to Tasmania later this year!
What do you enjoy about living in Wide Bay?
It's hard to beat the laid-back lifestyle with access to plenty of opportunities for participating in outdoor activities with the family.
Whether it’s a walk along the beach, putting the boat in or heading off for a weekend away with the swags or camper trailer – the Wide Bay / Burnett area has a little something for everyone.

I keep my memory sharp by writing down my to do list on post it notes…and then losing them!
