Closing the Gap

Our First Nations health equity strategy sets out how we'll meet our goals to make sure First Nations peoples have equal access to health care.

Our strategy supports our health services plan and the agreement on Closing the Gap. Learn more about the national agreement on the Closing the Gap website.

We developed our strategy with First Nations peoples from our community through consultations and feedback.

Our focus

Our focus areas for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ health care is to:

  • improve life expectancy by 2031
  • increase the number of babies born at a healthy weight to 91%
  • significantly reduce the number of suicides.

Our First Nations Health steering committee monitors and considers cultural factors as we work towards improving health care equity.
