A successful community fundraiser has helped fund specialised clinical equipment for Bundaberg Hospital's Acute Medical Ward, with Partners in Care Together's Pies in July campaign supporting local healthcare while also backing two local businesses.
Coordinated by Partners in Care Together, the month-long fundraiser invited hospital staff and community members to purchase locally made family pies from Bro's Bakery. Every pie purchased contributed towards funding specialised equipment for Bundaberg Hospital while supporting a valued local business.
Funds raised through the campaign have granted the Acute Medical Ward's Wishlist wish for a new Digital Compact Camera, Flash Diffuser and photo printer. The specialised camera and flash diffuser will enable clinicians to capture clearer, more consistent clinical photographs of wounds, while the new photo printer will produce higher-resolution images to support wound assessment, monitoring and ongoing patient care.
Registered Nurse, Kaylean Fisher said the new equipment will be a valuable addition for staff caring for patients with wounds.
"Accurate wound photography is an important part of assessing, monitoring and treating many of our patients. Having access to this camera and high-quality printer will improve the consistency and clarity of our clinical documentation, helping us monitor wound healing more effectively and ultimately support better patient outcomes."
Rebecca Field, Events and Fundraising Specialist at Partners in Care Together, said the success of Pies in July highlighted what could be achieved when a community comes together for a shared purpose.
“It is important to us to be able to show our supporters exactly where their fundraising dollars go. Every pie purchased has helped provide equipment that our clinicians identified as a genuine need, while also supporting local businesses. It's a wonderful example of what can be achieved when our community comes together to support local healthcare”.
Every pie purchased helped bring another hospital Wishlist wish to life, demonstrating how everyday acts of generosity can directly enhance local healthcare. The fundraiser not only supported Bro's Bakery but will also see the equipment purchased locally through Garricks Camera House, ensuring the campaign continues to invest in the Bundaberg community.
Jay and April, owners of Bro's Bakery, said the bakery was proud to partner with Partners in Care Together on a fundraiser that gave back to the local community.

Partners in Care Together is the official charity supporting the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service. Through its Wishlist program, the charity funds medical equipment, patient support initiatives and service enhancements not eligible for government funding. Since 1998, community support has helped grant hundreds of hospital Wishlist wishes, improving healthcare for patients and families across the Wide Bay, Fraser Coast and North Burnett regions.
