03 Dreamtime Bears 1

Some truly unique and one-of-a-kind teddies have been donated to the hospital by a local teenager.

Fraser Coast Anglican College student Ebony used a school project in her religion class to spread the word of her culture.

Ebony decided to sew and paint Diversity Dolls of all different skin tones as part of her “make a difference” project.

She then kindly donated to Hervey Bay Hospital hoping to spread a message of diversity within the Hervey Bay community.

Three hand painted bears each representing a different dream time story were presented to Jillianne Weyman on behalf of the wider Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander Health Team.

Jillianne said she was blown away at the beauty of the bears and the special message they carry.

“The thought and care that Ebony put into creating these bears is truly inspiring,” she said.

“Each one carries a unique story from the Dreamtime, which is a beautiful way to celebrate our heritage and teach others about it.

“We are so grateful for her generous contribution."

While a final home for the bears has not been decided yet, the team are determined to makre sure they continue to be a gift that keeps on giving.

“We want them to be a reminder of the importance of inclusion for all who visit the hospital," she said.
