For nearly a decade, John, Chair of the Gayndah Community Reference Group (CRG), has witnessed firsthand the power of collaboration in improving local health services.
As a respected community leader and advocate, John has played a crucial role in bringing together healthcare providers, community members, and decision-makers to shape the future of health services in the region.
"The CRGs serve as a vital forum, bringing all health service providers together every two months to share updates, discuss challenges, and identify opportunities for collaboration," John explained.
"In Gayndah, we are fortunate to have a strong network of engaged stakeholders, including members of the general community who are deeply invested in our local health services."
Director of Nursing at Gayndah Hospital, Janette, echoed the importance of the CRG’s role in local healthcare planning.
"The Community Reference Group is made up of key services, stakeholders, and community members and provides a great forum to not only communicate current healthcare activities but to be informed of community feedback, priorities, and needs," she said.
The group ensures a level of accountability while providing an invaluable platform for strengthening partnerships between community and our health services."
One of the most significant successes stemming from the Gayndah CRG’s collaborative approach is the recent $17 million funding secured for the Central and Upper Burnett District Home for the Aged.
"This project exemplifies what can be achieved when health providers, community members, and support networks come together with a shared goal," John shared.
"The grant will fund additional staff accommodation, upgraded facilities, and an additional 10-bed high-care wing—an outstanding outcome that will benefit our region for years to come."
Beyond major funding achievements, the Gayndah CRG continues to provide a crucial platform for local health services to align their efforts. The infrastructure upgrades to the Gayndah health facility have enhanced not only hospital services but also Allied Health offerings, ensuring that community members have better access to the care they need.
John emphasised the CRG’s broader role in the community.
"These meetings are more than just updates; they are about fostering meaningful connections," he said.
"By uniting different health services under one roof, we create opportunities for collaboration that might not otherwise exist.
"This strengthens our ability to advocate for better health outcomes for Gayndah and the surrounding areas."
As Gayndah continues to evolve, the CRG remains a driving force behind positive change, ensuring that local voices are heard and that health services continue to meet the needs of the community.
