We’re pleased to announce that Hervey Bay Hospital has recently commenced a new menu rotation tailored specifically for patients on a low-fat diet.

Previously, patients who were required to be on a low-fat diet for medical reasons such as pancreatitis or cholecystitis would receive selections from the regular menu, marked with a heart symbol to signify a healthier choice. As part of a collaboration between our dedicated dietetics and food services nutrition support team, we have now implemented a separate menu exclusively featuring balanced choices tailored for those on a low-fat diet.

This initiative stems from our commitment to mitigating risks and ensuring that our patients receive dietary choices aligned with their needs. This enhancement will contribute to improved patient outcomes and overall satisfaction.

The project was an initiative of Tia Herberts, a dietitian at Hervey Bay Hospital. Tia led this project in collaboration with Max Coughlin, the Menu Monitor from our Fraser Coast Food Services team.

With her dietetics background, Tia was able to provide great recommendations on developing a menu that met the needs of our patients, while also ensuring that it was tasty and appealing. Max then worked her magic on transferring the new menu ideas to our menu template, updating the kitchen prep chart and daily counts.

Enormous congratulations need to go to Tia and Max, as well as the entire Fraser Coast team who has been so committed to supporting this initiative. It’s an important reminder of the values of our health services, C.A.R.E Through Patients’ Eyes.
