Meet Health Hero Gordon Ward - one of WBHHS' trade assistants who helps keep Hervey Bay Hospital in tip top shape.

How long have you been with WBHHS?

15 Years

How do you describe what you do?

I work within the maintenance team supporting trade operations by helping to maintain and improve essential infrastructure and facilities. Working closely with the trade teams, I’m able to contribute to delivering quality services that support patients and staff at the Hervey Bay Hospital.

What’s best about your job?

It’s the people I work with.  The trade staff are a great team and working with them makes my work very enjoyable.

What was your path into health care?

I’ve had a varied career having worked as a butcher, a nursing assistant and in air conditioning maintenance which brought me to my current role.

What does being part of a team mean to you?

It’s about having the support to do your job, no matter how large the task.  Knowing the team is always there to help and doing the same in return while working through our jobs is very satisfying.

When you’re not at work, you are…

I enjoy spending time outdoors.  Some of my favourite pastimes are camping and fishing.  I am also raising my grandson and enjoy spending time with him.

What do you enjoy about living in Wide Bay?

We have everything to enjoy here with easy access to beaches, national parks, and outdoor activities which allow for a great work-life balance.

Tell us a fun fact about you.

My claim to fame is being the first baby born in Kingaroy in 1967.
