Child Protection Week from 7 to 13 September is a time for communities across Australia to come together to promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
This year’s theme, “Every child in every community needs a fair go. Every conversation matters: Shifting conversations to action,” calls on all of us to play a part in ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in a safe, supportive environment.
Child Protection Liaison Officer Lynne Quagliata said locally Child Protection Week serves as a timely reminder of the importance of community connection, listening without judgment, and turning awareness into meaningful action.
“Whether you are a parent, health worker, teacher, neighbour, or community member, you have a role to play in creating environments where children feel safe, heard, and valued,” she said.
“Sometimes the smallest conversations can have the biggest impact.
“A check-in with a parent under stress, a moment of support for a child, or a conversation with a colleague about recognising signs of harm, all these interactions contribute to a child-safe culture.”
Lynne said Child Protection Week encourages us to listen, to speak up, and to act early when we notice something isn’t quite right.
“Together, we can help ensure every child in every community has a fair go, not just during Child Protection Week, but every day of the year.”
