The Nursing and Midwifery Education and SIM team recently hosted the engaging event "A Career in Midwifery and Nursing" at Bundaberg Hospital.
Held over four full-day sessions, the event welcomed nearly 100 local Year 10 and 11 students from Bundaberg and Rural High Schools, offering hands-on experiences through classroom and simulation-based activities.
Students explored basic life support, vital signs/observations, and disease response and participated in realistic medical scenarios, working together as future healthcare professionals.
Educational Support Officer Cara Willes said the "Career in Nursing and Midwifery" day has become a highly anticipated annual event.
“Our aim is to inspire students to pursue careers in nursing and midwifery by showcasing the challenges and rewards of these vital roles,” she said.
One student said the event had given them great insight into nursing.
“The ladies were awesome and very willing to provide lots of information. This workshop was amazing, and I would definitely recommend it!” they said.
Another student said they enjoyed being hands-on during the day.
“I think that every activity we did was engaging and fun; I absolutely loved it all,” they said.
Over the coming weeks, the showcase will be hosted in Maryborough for another 100 students from local Fraser Coast schools.
