Community members gathered in front of a table of handcrafted items
A community engagement event at Reflections on the Bay Retirement Village in Hervey Bay has created an awareness of local health services.

This month we were proud to host a special Community Engagement Event at Reflections on the Bay Retirement Village, bringing together our Nurse Navigators, BreastScreen, Palliative Care, Hervey Bay Hospital Auxiliary and Advance Care Planning services.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share information, answer questions, and connect with community members face-to-face.

Volunteer Coordinator Kim Hanns said the day was aimed to build awareness of the local health services available, strengthen relationships between the hospital and the community, and encourage open, supportive conversations around health care planning and wellbeing.

“We found that a lot of our attendees had limited knowledge of what services we offer or how to access them,” she said.

“During the event we saw residents being engaged by the information sessions and options that are available for local health care.

“Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many asking for follow-up materials and already requesting another session.”

Kim said she was grateful to the hospital teams for taking time out of their busy working day to be part of engaging with our community and to let them know about some of the great things we do and the services we provide.
