WBHHS Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2024-26
WBHHS is conscious of the significant responsibility we have to reduce our carbon footprint and deliver a more environmentally sustainable service that meets our community’s expectations.
As our resource-intensive healthcare sector contributes to the causes of climate change, and climate change poses an increasing risk to population health, our sustainability strategy represents our first steps to a greener, healthier future.
The strategy was developed through comprehensive consultation with staff across all levels and professional streams. It targets five strategic areas, each supported by aspirational but achievable action plans.
Together, they set out how we will reduce our environmental impact while maintaining our commitment to high-quality health care, for the community of today and the generations of tomorrow.

Health Service Investigation Report
WBHHS is committed to transparency and accountability in delivering safe, high-quality care to our community.
This report provides a detailed examination of our management of patients with cognitive impairment, outlining the findings, contributing factors, and recommendations for improvement. By addressing these issues, we aim to enhance our practices and continue providing care that meets the highest standards of excellence.
We thank all those who contributed to this investigation and remain dedicated to fostering trust and confidence in our health services.
Aged Care Whistleblower Disclosures
In addition to Public Interest Disclosures, specific protections apply to workers who report concerns about aged care services under the Aged Care Act 2024 and Aged Care Rules 2025.
An aged care whistleblower disclosure is information provided by a current or former employee, contractor, volunteer, or other eligible person about suspected misconduct, improper care, or breaches of aged care standards within a Commonwealth-funded aged care service.
This may include concerns about:
- The quality or safety of care provided to older people,
- Serious incidents, neglect, or abuse,
- Failure to meet legislative or regulatory requirements, or
- Improper conduct by an approved provider or its staff.
As outlined in our Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (HHS) Whistleblower (Aged Care) Policy [PDF 831.17 KB], the Service supports and encourages reporting of these concerns and is committed to ensuring disclosures are managed appropriately, confidentially, and without fear of reprisal.
