A rural social worker was surprised with a thank-you cake at Monto Hospital recently to celebrate World Social Work Day https://www.ifsw.org/social-work-action/world-social-work-day/.

Held on the third Tuesday of March each year, the day aims to spotlight the accomplishments of social work while advocating for social justice and human rights.

World Social Work Day not only recognises the vital role social workers play in supporting individuals, families, and communities but also underscores the importance of their contributions to broader societal welfare.

This year’s theme, ‘Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change,’ emphasised the necessity for social workers to embrace innovative, community-driven strategies rooted in indigenous wisdom and ecological balance.

The surprise cake presentation was a real sweetener to the day as the team reflected on the important of social workers particular in rural area.
